Configuring Microsoft Outlook Express for Newsgroup Access
- From the main window of Microsoft Outlook Express, open the "Tools" menu and select "Accounts…"

- A window titled "Internet Accounts" should appear. On the right side of the window, select "Add" and then "News…" An "Internet Connection Wizard" window will appear.

- The first section will ask for your display name, which users will see when you post articles. Most users choose an alias or nickname, but you can use your real name. Enter a display name and hit the "Next" button.

- The next section requests your email address. This will allow users that read your posts to reply to you in private by email. Once you have entered your email address, hit the "Next" button.
Due to the nature of automated spam on Usenet, it is recommended that you don't supply your actual email address. If you would like to make your email address known to other users but want to protect it from spam, enter it using the following format: example@giganewsREMOVETHIS.com. Human readers will know to remove a portion of the displayed address.

- The next screen will ask for your "News (NNTP) Server." Enter news.giganews.com if you are in the US or news-europe.giganews.com if you are in Europe. Check the box for "My news server requires me to log on" and hit the "Next" button.
- The next section requests your account name and password. Enter your Giganews login and password exactly as they appear in your Startup Kit. For your convenience, leave the "Remember password" box checked. Leave "Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" unchecked, and hit the "Next" button.

- You should see a final "Congratulations" screen confirming that your settings have been entered correctly. Hit the "Finish" button.
The next section explains how to enable SSL Encryption in Outlook Express
- In the "Internet Accounts" window, you will see a new entry for "news.giganews.com." Click on that entry to highlight it, and select the "Properties" button on the right side of the window.
- Click on the "Advanced" tab and check the box next to "This server requires a secure connection (SSL)." The port listed above this checkbox should change from 119 to 563. Click "OK" to save this change.
Port 443 is also available for SSL encrypted connections.
