Giganews Usenet University
The Giganews Accelerator™ Program
The Giganews Accelerator is a Windows based application which works as a news proxy and is installed directly on your PC. Among other features the Giganews Accelerator allows you to increase header download speeds by up to 10 times normal download rates. The Giganews Accelerator can also be used to get around certain network slow downs between Giganews and your computer. Download and install the Giganews accelerator from http://www.giganews.com/accelerator.html.
Managing Headers with the Giganews Accelerator
The Giganews Accelerator offers a header compression feature that increases header downloads by up to 10 times. To enable header compression, click the "Options" button and then click "Compression".
Encrypted Commands
The Giganews Accelerator will also allow you to use SSL Encryption even if your news reader does not natively support it. In addition to encrypting Usenet traffic, all of the commands sent to and from your computer will be encrypted, which is sometimes an effective method to circumvent intentional bottlenecks. To enable SSL encryption, click the "Options" button and then click "256-bit SSL Encryption".
Setting Up
Once the accelerator is installed, you will have to configure your news client to communicate with it instead of directly connecting to Giganews.
Choose a client below for a step-by-step walkthrough:
Video Seven - The Giganews Accelerator
Summary: Video seven explains all of the advantages of using the Giganews Accelerator™ utility and includes guidelines for setting up the Accelerator and configuring news clients to work with it.
Because the video tutorials present information in a slightly different format than the web versions, we encourage you to view the video in its entirety. However, if you wish to skip directly to configuring news clients for the Giganews Accelerator, seek to 02:00 to view the walkthrough for Microsoft Outlook Express; seek to 02:40 to view the walkthrough for Newsbin Pro.
