Giganews Usenet University
Giganews Encrypted Usenet™ Access
Encrypted Usenet Access uses 256-bit SSL encryption to create a secure 'tunnel' that all of the traffic between your news reader and Giganews passes through. This is primarily used to help secure your username and password which are traditionally transfered as clear text. It can also help as a preventitive measure against identity theft. This form of online security is what many websites use to secure credit card payments and online banking sessions, among other uses. The benefits of using SSL encryption on Usenet include increased privacy and a greater probability of circumventing network bottlenecks.
Encrypted Usenet Access is included with the Diamond access plan or as an add-on service to all other access plans.
Note: The Giganews Accelerator encrypts Usenet commands for all Giganews members, regardless of account type. If your account includes Encrypted Usenet Access, the Giganews Accelerator will automatically encrypt your entire Usenet session, including data transfer.
If you use the Giganews Accelerator and have the Encrypted Usenet Access
add-on, be sure to disable SSL Encryption in your news client.

Video Two – Accessing Newsgroups
Summary: Video two explains how to access newsgroups, what software is available to do so, and how to configure two popular clients, Microsoft Outlook Express and Newsbin Pro.
Because the video tutorials present information in a slightly different format than the web versions, we encourage you to view the video in its entirety. However, if you wish to skip directly to client configuration for SSL, seek to 04:01 to view the walkthrough for Microsoft Outlook Express. Seek to 06:16 to view the walkthrough for Newsbin Pro.
